Sunnies, rolling, smiling ...

Jacob is always smiling (except when he's feeding, sleeping and of course, crying!), he's starting to laugh and giggle, he talks non stop and now is showing off with his rolling skills. And he's started to wear sunnies!!!

Visit to the Blue Mountains

Whilst Dave was working hard, well giving a training course on introducing some Aussies to lean manufacturing, Jacob and I went for a drive up into the Blue Mountains. We couldn't have picked a more beautiful day, we could see for miles. It was so tranquil and relaxing whilst we were there, just a shame we couldn't have spent longer. We all hope to visit the area again very soon.

Nearly time to return to the UK

I can't believe how quick the time has gone. My parents will be leaving to return to the UK in a couple of days but before then a nice long walk in the sun is required.

Whilst they have been here, we have been everywhere and done all kinds of things. Many walks by the ocean dolphin spotting, visiting new places and generally catching up and enjoying each others company. It will be sad that they are going but it won't be long until we return to the UK.

Great Auntie Jackie comes to visit

My Auntie Jackie has come to visit from Melbourne. It's great to see her and nice for Mum to spend some time with her little sister. They had a lovely weekend together and Jacob got to spend some time with his Great Aunt.

Time for a nap

I think it could be sleepy time for Jacob and Grandma ...

Sydney visit with my parents

Dad (Grandpops) and Dave wanted to tackle the Sydney Bridge climb. So we decided to have a couple of days in Sydney. Whilst Dad and Dave walked the Bridge, Mum, Jacob and I enjoyed a walk around The Rocks and then up to Sydney Opera House. It was great to be able to visit with Mum and Dad as we also visited with my brother Anthony and his wife, late last year.

Grandparents arrive

At long last and many weeks counting down, my parents have arrived! Of course they are not interested in me but their new little grandson. Jacob was nearly three weeks old when they arrived and not too worried about their arrival.

Time for a walk

We've been trying to go for a walk most days whilst Dave is off as it's good for Jacob to get some fresh air but also good for me to get some too. I can't manage walking too far or too fast but Dave is patient with me and is happy to follow my pace. With the sun shining and the air nice and warm, it's perfect to go watching the surfers in the ocean and maybe enjoy an ice cream too!

We're home

After a few days in the hospital Dave and I believed it was time to take Jacob home for the first time. After Dave finished work on Friday afternoon, he came and collected us and we used the car seat for the first time. We think Jacob enjoyed his first ride in a car but are a little unsure as he was very quiet, could have been for the fact he was asleep!

Dave has booked the week off and we are planning to enjoy our first week as a family. I have to say Dave is brilliant. He looks after me, taking Jacob in the morning so I can catch up on some sleep and then bringing me lunch in bed!, to looking after Jacob and keeping a watchful eye on him.

Jacob's arrival

Our baby has arrived at 17.47 on 27th Februray 2007. Our son weighs in at 3880 grams and is 52 cms long. Of course it has taken Dave and I a little while to decide on the perfect name for him, Jacob David, but now we have found the perfect name, it suits him.

By the time we all got on the ward it was time for Dave to go back home and I got left with our little boy but with no idea what to do! Dave on the other hand was very tired and looking forward to a quiet night asleep.

I was very lucky during my first night as a mother. There was a brilliant midwife who looked after us both and helped out with Jacob during the night. I can't thank her enough. All the staff at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle were brilliant and looked after us all.
